Overwater Progress Deluxe Custom 5 String Bass 1999

This Overwater "Progress" Bass was built as a custom order in 1999 and is a Progress Deluxe model with a few extras.

This is a very interesting build in the same year that Overwater celebrated its 20th anniversary. Chris May was tasked to build something that was a little less ‘hi-fi’ at which point he handed the original owner one of John Entwhistle’s old Fender Precisions and they decided that this is what was needed to emulate and this became the design brief that resulted in the bass we have here for sale.

The build quality of this fine bass is exceptional, you can stare for hours at the details, and its a pleasure to play. Really nice action with a great "feel" to the neck.
It has a Mahogany core, with a walnut front and back with maple stringers. It’s a through-neck construction rather than the more conventional bolt-on type The neck is a rock maple and purple heart 5-piece laminate with metal truss rod reinforcement.
The fingerboard is cocobolo and was chosen for its playability and "feel" without producing the noise of ebony

It’s a 24-fret neck, 35” scale with 16.5 mm string spacing. The nut width is 46mm with 64mm at the 12th fret - so it plays incredibly well without the need for huge hands!
The bridge is a custom Overwater unit with individual saddle adjustment and the intonation is perfect.

It has the Overwater soap bar pickups with a master volume and tone control with a 3-band cut and boost equalizer ( +/-12db).

These electronics were updated in 2009 when it was returned to Overwater, where Chris fitted a piezo bridge pickup to add even more punch to the mix.
Hardware is gold throughout with Gotoh machine heads.

Aside from a small crack in the lacquer towards the heel of the neck this bass has been treasured and is in excellent condition for the year,
